Types of Dentures Available
- Traditional Full ‘Plates’ — A full arch denture replaces all of your upper or lower teeth with one appliance. If you have any remaining teeth, those will need to be extracted before a full denture can be worn. We will create your plate so that it feels comfortable, looks great and supports the soft tissues of your lips and cheeks, minimising the effects of tooth loss on your facial profile.
- Valplast Dentures — Pink acrylic partials are ideal for replacing a limited number of missing teeth. Aesthetic and flexible, Valplast appliances blend in with your smile and are completely metal-free.
- Partial Dentures — Cobalt Chrome partials have a durable metal base that can support multiple pontic (replacement) teeth. The partial will use small clasps to attach itself onto neighbouring teeth for support.
- Implant-Supported Dentures — Prefer to stabilise your denture with something more permanent? Ask about using dental implants. With just 2-4 implants placed at strategic points in your jaw, we can permanently affix your prosthesis or create a ‘snap-on’ appliance that you take out at night.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many visits are needed?
At least two appointments will be needed to fit, design and deliver your new denture. Sometimes a follow-up visit is necessary to make adjustments after you’ve worn your appliance for several days. If you have extractions before getting a denture, your appliance will likely need to be relined several weeks later.
Should I pull my teeth and get a denture?
Removing your remaining teeth to replace them all with a denture isn’t always the best decision. Ultimately, we want you to preserve as many teeth as possible. Transitioning to a full denture can take some getting used to and isn’t like eating or talking with your natural smile.
Are there age requirements for dentures?
Most of our denture cases are for middle-aged patients or recent retirees. However, younger adults may choose to get a denture, especially as an interim solution before upcoming dental implant treatment.
Do I need to use a denture adhesive?
Adhesive pastes and strips for dentures can help in the beginning, when you’re getting used to wearing your new appliance. But you shouldn’t need them for long. A great-fitting denture is made to rest directly on top of your gums. If you find it getting loose, it’s likely time for an adjustment or reline.
Can teeth be added onto my partial denture?
It depends. Sometimes if you have additional teeth removed, we can affix a new “pontic” (false tooth) onto your denture. In other situations, a new partial may need to be made.
